This is a blog post mainly aimed at my own students who are beginners but it will be useful for any beginner brass players and their teachers. It will also be really useful for parents of beginners, because support for your child goes a long way!

These lessons are probably in a school and I will be working with the Entrust Staffordshire Music Service, but they might also be private lessons. Your child might be having a lesson in a small group or individually.
Having a good brass teacher when you first start out is incredibly important. What you learn in the first few lessons will impact you for as long as you continue to play and if you learn the basics wrong or skip any basic steps then it can cause frustrations down the line. My method involves helping students develop a complete mastery of the basics.
Study Book Purchase
You have probably come along to this page because your child has told you to buy a music book. I ask my students to purchase a brass tutor book straight away because it helps with motivation and ownership of their musical learning. It also means they can explore new things independently should they wish to try. You do not have to buy anything, this is just an option.
These are the books I like to use so please go ahead and order the correct one. For simplicity, your child should know which number to order (1-5) or the information will be written by me in their practice diary. If in doubt, just email me at mark.glover@entrust-music.co.uk
