My musical journey started at the age of 10 when I first picked up the euphonium.

Me (nice hair!)

I was a member of the Sandwell Youth Band before I left for the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff to study. During this time I was lucky to be guided by Richard Adams, Andy Fawbert, Chris Mowat and Robert Childs. I even had the opportunity to play with brass bands like the Tongwynlais Band, Cory Band and Tredegar Band.

Euphonium Staffordshire

I moved back home to the Midlands after that and joined the Staffordshire Band. I also completed my PGCE in secondary education to become a qualified teacher. This was a great period for the Staffordshire Band and we won contests like the Midlands Area and Pontins Championships and also qualified for the National Finals at The Royal Albert Hall!

After this, I played for The Virtuosi GUS Band under the brilliant conductor John Berryman. During this time I was working as a head of music in a special school for boys with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties so my life was never dull! I taught the drums, guitar and even some DJ techniques!

In December 2011, I moved to live in Singapore. This was such a wonderful opportunity for me and I really miss living there (the food especially).

My main jobs included being the Principal Study Lecturer of Euphonium at The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and the principal euphonium tutor for The Singapore Armed Forces Band.

I also had lots of opportunities to travel around South East Asia and perform or give masterclasses. I visited some great places like Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia but also started performing further away like the USA and even Brazil!

After 5 years in Singapore my family and I decided to move to Dubai. I was offered a head of music position in a prestigious international school. This meant I had a little less time for euphonium work but during this time I still managed to record my solo CD, check it out here.

My school also supported my overseas performances and I gave a concerto performance in Taiwan and solo recital in Pune, India!

In 2020, I moved back home to the UK and had the opportunity to play with the WEFL Fairey Band from Stockport. In October 2021, I performed with them at the Royal Albert Hall.

In 2023, I became the solo euphonium of the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, a position I currently hold. A dream come true!

I am always looking for new and exciting projects!

If you want a guest soloist, a recital concert, masterclass or brass lesson (online or in person), need a conductor for your band, someone to give sectional rehearsals or want to discuss any projects please get in touch.

I also have a blog, where I would be happy to review products or create any content based on viewer suggestions.

I hope you enjoy my site!
