A euphonium concert and concerto performance along with some welcome visitors from the UK all came together to create a very busy time for Mark. The euphonium concert was a great success with all soloists performing well and money raised for the Salvation Army charity in Singapore. Mark was also very grateful for the opportunity to work again with the awesome pianist Alex Thio. Following this, Mark started rehearsals with The Catholic High School Band under the direction of Adrian Chiang ready for his debut solo appearance in the prestigious Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore. Rehearsals went very well and the young students in the band worked very hard on their difficult musical programme. The day itself came around quickly and following a run of the concerto in the hall itself, Mark was ready for what was potentially his biggest solo performance ever! Mark was due to perform the Sparke Euphonium Concerto No. 1 as the final piece in the first half and relaxed backstage with his wife and daughter prior to taking the stage. The performance was very well received by the almost sell out audience and Mark even had a little encore up his sleeve which had the audience talking as they went into the interval. The students from the Catholic High School were the stars of the show and it was a real privilege for Mark to work with them.
Mark recently gave a masterclass to students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and has future classes being booked which will see him working with the Singapore Armed Forces and other prestigious schools in Singapore.
